Suspect Nabbed After Long Island Bank Robbery

A suspect has been charged after a Long Island bank robbery earlier in the day.

The robbery took place around 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb 27, in West Babylon, said the Suffolk County Police.

According to detectives, the suspect, now identified as George Swanton, 60, of West Babylon, entered the People’s United Bank, at 955 Little East Neck Road, and handed a teller a note demanding cash. 

The teller complied with the demand and gave the man cash from the drawer.

Swanton then fled on a bicycle, northbound on Little East Neck Road, police said. 

Swanton was charged with third-degree robbery and a violation of a parole warrant. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday, Feb. 28.
